Leadership Corner

Mission Excellence

Our responsibility to ‘first detect and first report’ missile launches hostile to U.S./Allied interests, while providing Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) surveillance of denied areas, is our covenant to the American people and the joint/combined force. As threats to the homeland and our fielded forces evolve in scope and lethality, it is essential we sharpen our focus on mission excellence; expand our preparation and planning efforts to account for anti-access/area denial threats; and take proactive steps to improve our posture to protect, defend and operate through a Contested, Degraded, and Operationally limited environment. Finally, commanders and senior enlisted leaders at every level must promote a culture of innovation focused on improving the readiness and lethality of the joint/combined force.

Installation Readiness

Our ability to ensure mission excellence and invest in our Airmen and their families is inextricably bound to our installation readiness. In other words, how we respond to crises, care for our AF family, and counter threats to operations is dependent on the resilience of BOTH our Airmen AND infrastructure. Therefore, we will prioritize an installation readiness posture appropriate to a 24/7 national security mission with the highest standards for operational availability. In addition, we will improve AT/FP readiness and AF family care/assistance program responsiveness. Moreover, in order to ensure progress and sustain momentum, we must establish and/or expand community partnerships and reallocate wing resources where necessary. Finally, a robust inspection program is critical to assessing our posture; accordingly, leaders will strengthen unit self-assessment programs to validate mission and installation readiness and mitigate risk.

Airmen and Families

Our AF is smaller than it has ever been and is too small for the missions assigned! The security environment has become increasingly dangerous with a simultaneity and pace of national security challenges that have placed significant strain on our Airmen and their families. In the 460 SW we are Wingmen, and we will treat every Airman and family member with dignity and respect. We will strengthen our investment in their personal and professional growth, and our SNCOs and frontline supervisors in particular will take steps to strengthen the connectedness and trust of our AF family starting at the flight/section level. Accordingly, we will implement strategically tailored leader development seminars, process improvement initiatives, and Quality of Life programs that optimize the readiness and resilience of our Airmen and families. Furthermore, leaders at all levels will focus on pride, professionalism, discipline, and readiness as fundamental competencies required of every Airman.
