ARPC mourns loss of teammate

BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Air Force Major Elgin "Rick" Ross, Chief, Total Force Service Center, assigned to Headquarters Air Reserve Personnel Center, was pronounced dead at 9:22 a.m., June 17 after being transported to the University of Colorado Hospital June 16.

"We are heartbroken over the loss of our teammate and friend," said Brig. Gen. Ellen Moore, ARPC commander. "ARPC is coming together in this sad time, and we are ensuring that Rick's wife and children are taken care of now and in the future."

Ross, 47, became unresponsive while conducting his physical training test on June 16 at Buckley Air Force Base. An investigation into the cause of death is ongoing.

As the head of TFSC Denver, Ross was responsible for the center's customer support services to 1.3 million Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve, and retired Air Force members. He was assigned to ARPC in 2017 and served in the Air Force for 24 years.

Ross was committed to his family, faith, friends and co-workers.

"Rick was the perfect fit for ARPC," Moore said. "He was energetic, positive, and a role model. Above that, he was a beloved son, husband and dad. He will be missed."

Ross was from Jacksonville, Florida and is survived by his mom, wife and three children.

ARPC will host a memorial service for Ross. The time and date will be announced once determined.
