COLONEL SHANNON L. PHARES

Colonel Shannon L. Phares is the Commander, 460th Medical Group, Buckley AFB, Colorado. In this role, she is responsible for the health care delivered to over 93,000 beneficiaries by 220 military, civilian, and contract personnel operating under a $12.7M budget. By ensuring mobility ready medics and Airmen, the group supports the critical mission set of the 460th Space Wing and 93 mission partners by executing cost-effective, accessible, community-based health care and promotes healthy lifestyles through preventive medical services. Prior to her current assignment, Col Phares served as the Aerospace & Operational Physiology (AOP) Program Manager, Office of the ACC Surgeon General, Headquarters Air Combat Command, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, VA.

Col Phares earned her commission in 1996 through the Air Force ROTC at San Diego State University in CA, where she received a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology. She has served in a variety of Military Treatment Facilities and staff positions, including Commander, 325th Medical Support Squadron, Tyndall AFB, FL and Commander, 47th Aeromedical Dental Squadron, Laughlin AFB, TX. Prior to command, Col Phares served as the Assistant Director of Operations, Aerospace & Operational Physiology Programs (HQ AF/SG3P) and became the first Aerospace & Operational Physiologist on the HQ AF A3/5 staff.

Col Phares is a 2014 graduate of the Air War College at Maxwell AFB, AL.
