BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colorado -- Lt. Col. Jason McCandless took command of the 460th Operations Support Squadron from Lt. Col. Paul Freeman, June 28, 2018, on Buckley Air Force Base, Colorado.

Col. Robert Hutt, 460th Operations Group commander, presided over the ceremony and transferred the guidon from Freeman to McCandless, symbolizing the change of command.

As part of their arrival, each new commander is asked a series of questions to show Team Buckley their personality. Here’s McCandless’ First Five:

In your opinion, what characteristic most defines a leader?

I think a leader must care about the people they work with. Without followers that know the leader has their interests in mind, the leader will be alone.

What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind when you leave the 460 OSS?

I want the members of the 460th OSS to be proud of the work we have done supporting the missile warning mission.

If you could give your squadron one message, what would it be?

I am excited to be a member of the team and ready to meet everyone.

If you were not in the military, what job would you want to have?

I would be a fire fighter. I have been a volunteer for over 7 years and I really enjoy serving the community and helping people.

If you could be a part of any music group, past or present, which would it be and what would you play?

I think I would be a member of Coldplay, they have some fun songs and videos. I would have to play guitar or drums because I don’t have the voice for singing, just ask my three girls.
